Meteor explosion over Devon is considered to be the biggest UK strike ever. The incident that took place in the wee hours of yesterday was caught on camera by the Norman Lockyer Observatory in Sidmouth. It was the 'bollide' meteor, green in color and was viewed in the West Midlands, Wales and West Country at 03:04 BST. People who watched the enormous fireball exploding over Devon informed astronomers at the Norman Lockyer Observatory. The observatory officers were of the view that two of their fixed-position cameras had recorded the footage of the event. Dave Jones from the UK Meteor Observation Network confirmed that this was the possibly the largest explosion of its kind that has been recorded in the UK. "We have two cameras that watch for meteors during darkness, so upon hearing the news I logged in to check our data and see if we had captured anything", affirmed Jones. Jones said they could not get clear images due to cloud and rain drops on the camera lenses. But they were shocked to see the brightness of this object exploding in the atmosphere. It is considered that the meteor broke into a number of pieces and entered into earth's atmosphere, but it did not cause any damage. The explosion is considered to be the biggest ever been recorded by the observatory. Though it did not cause any damage to earth, meteors do pose a threat to life on earth. Last February, meteor that exploded over the Siberian city of Chelyabinsk had released more than 30 times the explosive energy of the Hiroshima bomb.
